Career Summary
2000– 2010 Divisional Director - Heritage Bathrooms, Brighouse, West Yorkshire, UK • Responsible for Development and Manufacture of Ceramic Sanitaryware. Heritage Group T/O £20M. Bristan Group T/O £90M. • Divisional Director with full P&L responsibility:- £6M internal transfer pricing £18M Retail Value. • Led implementation of Strategic Business Process Re-engineering plan. Developed and implemented Award winning Lean adoption and workforce training and health strategies, to address quality and delivery improvements required to achieve ‘World Class’ status. • Used Lean Manufacturing Techniques including Value Stream Mapping and Process Flow analysis. Introduced Demand-based production operations. Introduced High-Visibility Business Performance measures supported by product focussed-multi functional teams. • Reduced Work In Progress by 90% (from 14,500 pieces to < 1,500 pcs), Finished Goods by 92% (4,500 pieces to < 350 pcs) , improved inventory accuracy to 98%+ and reduced absenteeism from 6% to 0.5%. Complete on time in full of 98% achieved consistently.
1996–2000 Director - Heritage Bathrooms, Brighouse, West Yorkshire, UK • Responsible for all Technical, H&S, Supply Chain management and Clay Manufacturing at the Brighouse site. • Expanded the business.Grew sales from £1.2M to £3M+, increasing plant capacity and improving profitability prior to and during acquisition by Masco, a $12.2bn t/o US conglomerate in 1999. • Developed and introduced new clay bodies to assist in achieving 90% ‘A’ Grade from cast, a major business-efficiency KPI. Involved in the acquisition of the ‘Chatsworth’ brand name and securing the assets of the business and consequent integration within the wider Group.
1995–1996 Director Designate - Heritage Bathrooms, Consett, County Durham, UK • Full P&L responsibility for a £1M turnover Ceramic Sanitaryware manufacturing business. • Brought in to improve the performance of an underperforming business. Altered working practices, made a number of redundancies and returned a 20% net profit. • Brought technical and flow process control to the business. Ultimately was successful and asked to move to Brighouse facility as Director.
1991–1995 Technical Sales Manager - The Goonvean and Rostowrack China Clay Co. Ltd., St. Austell, UK • Full responsibility for the Sales and Marketing of Goonvean China Clays to the Global Ceramics industry based in St Austell, Cornwall. T/O of £35M. • Main Driver behind the selection and execution of Egypt as a highly successful major new market for G&R’s clays. Assisted the company to reach full sales capacity, converting paper clay business into more profitable Ceramic sales, utilising the clay’s inherent technical ‘plastic’ properties.
1989–1991 Technical Sales Representative -English China Clays/Whitfield and Son, Stoke On Trent, UK • Ceramic Raw Material and Machinery distributors with turnover of £10M per year. • Responsible for all Ceramic Plaster sales for Northern UK to all major Sanitaryware customers. • Assisted in selling ball mills and linings/ media to technical customers. • Organised and attended exhibitions such as Interceramex at NEC in Birmingham.
1983–1989 Ideal Standard Ltd, Middlewich, Cheshire, UK Laboratory Assistant 1983-‘85, Assistant Ceramist ‘85-‘87, Glaze Preparation Manager ‘87-‘89
• UK’s largest Bathroom company with Turnover of £300M + • Responsible for all the company’s glaze manufacture at age 19. Worked in the laboratory as Assistant Ceramist prior to taking glaze dept. Started in laboratory performing routine control testing in Ceramic Technology Dept.
